In keeping with the fall “football season” theme, it’s hard not to notice the ubiquitous presence of technology on the sidelines of today’s pro and college teams on game day.All manner of iPads, tablets and other visual devises now provide information to players and coaches alike. There’s not a serious program that has not yet embraced technology as a critical tool in the development of a winning strategy.
Technology allows the entire team to capture their roles and responsibilities in real time. This allows timely coaching and adjustments during the game vs. after the fact. The result is an optimization of plans, coaches and players to compete and win consistently!
The football analogy fits into any business process. Those that plan effectively, train to the plan, track their progress and manage the process greatly enhance their performance.
Companies that overlook CRM technology are playing today’s business game with leather helmets, baggy pants and ankle high cleats. They are out of step with their competition and are most assuredly falling behind.
Being flexible and adaptive and arming yourself with real-time data to make informed business decisions is a must. Is your organization suited up properly for today’s game? The leaves are about to turn, there is a nip in the air and football season is in full swing. The Packers, the Patriots, the Cardinals, Ohio State, Alabama, Notre Dame, UCLA; the list goes on and on. What fun!
All their hours of hard work are now very visible. So which of these teams entered the season without a plan? Let that thought marinate for a moment.
During a recent meeting with a Client, the topic of their 2016 strategic business plan came up and the Owner/CEO stated that he thought his team had plenty of time to get it done. “Heck, we’re only in the third quarter!”
But the reality is that in less than 60 work days they will be in the middle of strategic planning. In the infamous words of John Madden, “boom” they’ll be well into 2016 without a plan or much momentum.
The truth is that most businesses give lip service to planning and tend to wait until the last minute to slam together a cursory and token plan.
Why do organizations put off planning?
